SELF CONCEPT AS MEASURED BY THE TENNESSEE SELF CONCEPT SCALE IS ESTABLISHED AS A VALID CRITERION OF MENTAL HEALTH.
Abstract
THIS CRITERION IS BASED ON UNDERSTANDING THE INDIVIDUAL THROUGH HIS OWN INTERNAL FRAMEWORK RATHER THAN FROM THE EXTERNAL FRAMEWORK OF PSYCHIATRIC DIAGNOSIS. DATA FOR VARIOUS DIAGNOSTIC CATEGORIES IN THE MENTAL HEALTH CONTINUUM ALSO ESTABLISH SELF CONCEPT AS A MEANS OF UNDERSTANDING AND DIFFERENTIATING TYPES OF PATHOLOGY. ADDITIONALLY, EVIDENCE SHOWS SELF CONCEPT REFLECTS DEGREE OF PSYCHOPATHOLOGY. REFERENCES ARE INCLUDED.
