Recommendation R (95) 11, adopted by the Council of Europe in September 1995, was prepared by the Committee of Experts on Legal Data Processing under the authority of the European Committee on Legal Cooperation to cover the selection, processing, presentation, and archiving of court decisions in legal information retrieval systems.
Abstract
The recommendation states that Council of Europe member states should: (1) bring general principles and guidelines outlined in the recommendation to the attention of persons responsible for creating, managing, and updating legal information retrieval systems; (2) take appropriate steps to ensure that the principles and guidelines are applied to automated jurisprudence retrieval systems in the public sector; and (3) take appropriate steps to ensure that all users have easy access to legal information retrieval systems that are open to the public. Appendixes to the recommendation outlines general principles applicable to legal information retrieval systems and guidelines for selecting, processing, presenting, and archiving court decisions in legal information retrieval systems.
