REPORT ON A TWO DAY CONFERENCE, SPONSORED BY AMERICAN SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY MAGAZINE, AT WHICH EIGHT PERSONS IN EDUCATION AND SECURITY RELATED FIELDS DISCUSSED VANDALISM AND SCHOOL SECURITY.
Abstract
A COMBINATION OF TARGET-HARDENING TECHNIQUES, SECURITY SYSTEMS, AND STUDENT AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT PROGRAMS WERE SUGGESTED. FAILURE AND UNWILLINGNESS TO KEEP ADEQUATE RECORDS OF VANDALISM WAS SAID TO MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO ADEQUATELY ASSESS THE EXTENT OF THE VANDALISM PROBLEM. FAILURE TO PROMPTLY REPAIR VANDALIZED PROPERTY WAS SAID TO ENCOURAGE FURTHER VANDALISM.
