DEBATE PROPOSITIONS IN THE FIELD OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE ARE PRESENTED FOR USE BY THE HIGH SCHOOL DEBATER; VARIOUS APPROACHES AVAILABLE WITHIN THE SUBJECT'S SCOPE ARE DISCUSSED.
Abstract
THEORETICAL CONCEPTS WHICH UNDERLIE THE DEBATE PROCESS ITSELF ARE DELINEATED, ACCOMPANIED BY SPECIFIC SUGGESTIONS AS TO THEIR APPLICABILITY TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE. A DEFINITIONAL ANALYSIS OF BOTH THE PROBLEM AREA ('HOW CAN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN THE U.S. BEST BE IMPROVED?') AND THREE RELATED DEBATE PROPOSITIONS IS PROVIDED. THE TEXT CONTAINS FULL TEXTS OF THE FINAL ROUND DEBATES CONDUCTED AT BOTH THE UNIVERSITY OF REDLANDS AND GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY SUMMER FORENSICS INSTITUTES. EXPERT INTERLINEAR COMMENTS ACCOMPANY BOTH TEXTS. ALSO PRESENTED IS A COMPLETE ILLUSTRATED DISCUSSION OF THE STRATEGIC TOOL OFFERED BY THE 'MODULAR AFFIRMATIVE' APPROACH. A FINAL DISCUSSION IS DEVOTED TO A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF MODEL SPEECHES AND CASE IDEAS COVERING MANY AREAS OF CONCERN ON THE TOPIC. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED).
