SURVEY OF COOPERATIVE PRACTICES BETWEEN PRIVATE DEFENSE LAWYERS AND POLICE, PROSECUTION AND JUDGES BASED ON INTERVIEWS WITH TEN TEXAS ATTORNEYS.
Abstract
IT IS COMMONLY SAID IN THE LITERATURE THAT PUBLIC DEFENDER SERVICES DEVELOP SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEIR TITULAR ADVERSARIES IN THE PROSECUTORIAL ESTABLISHMENT. THE AUTHOR INTERVIEWED TEN MEMBERS OF THE PRIVATE BAR IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF SUCH COOPERATION AND ASSESS ITS COST TO CLIENTS. THE DISCUSSION TREATS DEFENSE RELATIONS WITH EACH OF ITS OPPOSING GROUPS BY QUOTING FROM THE INTERVIEWS. IT WAS FOUND THAT CONSIDERABLE AMOUNTS OF COOPERATION DID EXIST.
