A PROJECT SUMMARY AND DISCUSSIONS OF EXEMPLARY PROJECT CRITERIA SUCH AS GOAL ACHIEVEMENT, REPLICABILITY, MEASURABILITY, EFFICIENCY, AND ACCESSIBILITY OF THIS CORRECTIONAL STAFF DEVELOPMENT TRAINING PROJECT.
Abstract
THE PRIMARY GOAL OF SCOPE - IMPROVED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS - IS SUPPORTED BY THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THREE OBJECTIVES: AN INCREASE IN THE RETENTION RATE OF QUALIFIED, TRAINED STAFF; AN INCREASE IN THE TRAINEES' OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADVANCEMENT; AND A DECREASE IN THE NUMBER OF SERIOUS CONFRONTATIONS AMONG CORRECTIONAL STAFF AND INMATES. THE PROGRAM UTILIZES TWO METHODS OF INSTRUCTION. AUDIO-VISUAL PRESENTATIONS OF ACTUAL CORRECTIONAL SITUATIONS ARE USED TO HELP OFFICERS DISCOVER ALTERNATIVE EFFECTIVE ACTIONS, WHILE GROUP DISCUSSIONS ARE USED TO INSTILL AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROCESS INVOLVED IN SELECTING THE MOST EFFECTIVE ACTION FOR ANY SITUATION. A TRAINING PACKAGE CONTAINING THE FILMS AND INDIVIDUAL TRAINING KITS HAS BEEN PRODUCED. ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS APPLICATION ARE DISCUSSIONS OF THE PROGRAM BUDGET VALIDATION, DOCUMENTATION, AND ADMINISTRATION, AND COPIES OF DESCRIPTIVE BROCHURES AND LETTERS OF ENDORSEMENT.
