RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, SELF IDENTIFICATION AS A STUDENT, DELINQUENT FRIENDSHIP PATTERNS, AND ACTUAL ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR.
Abstract
SELF-CONCEPT AS A CAPABLE STUDENT WAS FOUND TO BE STRONGLY AND POSITIVELY RELATED TO ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE. THE FINDINGS LEND SUPPORT TO THE PREMISE THAT YOUNGSTERS WITH LOW SELF IDENTIFICATION AS STUDENTS TEND TO GROUP WITH YOUNGSTERS INVOLVED IN A DELINQUENT STYLE. THE DATA SUGGESTED THAT THE GREATER THE DEGREE OF IDENTIFICATION BETWEEN INDIVIDUALS, THE GREATER THE DEGREE OF UNIFORMITY OF THEIR ACTIONS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
