This paper starts from the premise that the relationship between the juvenile justice and the mental health systems needs to be improved if the goal of individualized justice is to be pursued effectively. Looking at the relationship in both symbolic and practical terms, it proposes several simple rules that might help these two groups of professionals work together better.
Abstract
At the heart of the approach taken is a call for more critical self-appraisal by both systems and a limiting of the role of each group of professionals to its demonstrated area of expertise. 24 references (Author abstract)
