Microcomputers can help with planning, organizing, training, budgeting, coordinating, directing, evaluating, and reporting all phases of even the most complex investigations and other security operations.
Abstract
The integration of graphics features and data bases, which can be customized in-house, constitutes a powerful management tool. Microcomputers can provide assistance with flowcharts, matrices, maps, diagrams, and case management. Flowcharts can aid in resource allocation planning, and flowchart techniques can be used in visual investigative analysis and implementation of the program evaluation and review technique. Matrices can be used for scheduling, comparisons, and examining the frequency of events. Mapping features and the ability to draw crime scene diagrams provide additional aids to investigation. A menu-driven case management module can contain calendar prompts, logs of contacts, lists of witnesses and resources, flowcharts, and link analysis charts. It also can assist in affidavit preparation. Properly configured, a microcomputer can maintain file security in its home environment while still being able to access files of a parent or contracting organization. 4 exhibits illustrating various microcomputer capabilities.
