BRIEF REVIEW OF THE BACKGROUND, ACTIVITIES, OUTPUTS, RESULTS, AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE SAN JOSE/SANTA CLARA COUNTY (CA) PILOT CITIES PROJECT, CONCLUDED ON JULY 15, 1975.
Abstract
THE UNDERLYING ASSUMPTION OF THIS EIGHT-CITY LEAA PROGRAM WAS THAT IMPROVED RESEARCH OF LOCAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROBLEMS COULD LEAD TO BETTER PLANNING; THAT THIS, IN TURN, WOULD LEAD TO IMPROVED PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS, AND THAT THESE IMPROVED PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS WOULD MORE EFFICIENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY REDUCE CRIME. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT A FEW SPECIFIC PILOT PROJECTS REDUCED A PARTICULAR TYPE OF CRIME IN A SPECIFIC AREA OF THE COUNTY DURING A SPECIFIC TIME PERIOD, ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT KNOWN IF CRIME WAS AT A LOWER LEVEL BECAUSE OF THE PROJECT. IN ADDITION, THE PROGRAM WAS FOUND TO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO 'A SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED ABILITY TO DIAGNOSE CRIME PROBLEMS AND TO PLAN AND IMPLEMENT SOLUTIONS' IN THE CITY OF SAN JOSE AND THE COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA.
