PROGRESS REPORT ON A DEMONSTRATION AREA'S SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM TO TEST AND DEMONSTRATE NEW METHODS FOR REDUCING CRIME IN AMERICA.
Abstract
SANTA CLARA COUNTY AND THE CITY OF SAN JOSE HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULLY EQUIPPED TO SERVE AS A COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER TO IDENTIFY AND DESCRIBE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROBLEMS, AND TO DISCOVER, TEST, EVALUATE AND DISSEMINATE NEW METHODS AND NEW PROGRAMS FOR REDUCING CRIME IN AMERICA. NEW METHODS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED AND NEW MEASUREMENT TECHNIQUES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED TO ASSESS THE IMPACT OF THESE UPON THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. THE PROGRAM HAS CONTRIBUTED TO INCREASED KNOWLEDGE ON SUCCESSFUL CHANGES AND HAS RESULTED IN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE DYNAMICS INVOLVED IN DISSEMINATING AND INTRODUCING NEW METHODS IN OTHER JURISDICTIONS. THE PROGRAM HAS INCREASED THE ABILITY OF THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM TO INDEPENDENTLY DEVELOP AND SUSTAIN NEW CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM INNOVATIONS AND TO CARRY OUT RESEARCH.
