Abstract
THE EFFECTS OF THE RISE OF THE PRISON MOVEMENT IN THE 1960'S AND ITS DECLINE IN THE 1970'S AND THE SUBSEQUENT POLITICIZATION OF PRISONERS ARE DISCUSSED. SIMILARITIES BETWEEN POPULAR SUPPORT FOR CARYL CHESSMAN AND GEORGE JACKSON, ONE OF THE SOLEDAD BROTHERS KILLED IN THE DISTURBANCE FOR WHICH THE SAN QUENTIN SIX WERE CHARGED, ARE COMPARED. FACTS OF THE CASE AND THE VERDICTS AND REASONS FOR THEM ARE ANALYZED.
