This report identifies and describes several programs that provide services for drug-abusing women offenders in San Antonio, Texas.
Abstract
Some of the San Antonio programs that provide services for drug-abusing women offenders operate within the jail for women serving sentences, others are immediate sanctions programs operating out of secure facilities that are used by probation or parole, and still others are community-based programs operating out of nonsecure facilities for women who are in the criminal justice system but are not incarcerated. The report describes needs assessment conducted by the programs and the services provided by the various treatment options: (1) Bexar jail programs (medical and psychiatric services, including prenatal and postpartum care); (2) La Mariposa (includes Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous sessions, psalm reading and other readings of similar moral content, counseling); and (3) MATCH (Mothers and Their Children) (program for inmates and their visiting children). The report also describes intermediate sanctions for probation and parole violators and community-based treatment program referrals. Footnotes
