This article describes effective court security equipment and procedures.
Abstract
Effective court security depends, first of all, on the attitudes of judges and court staff who operate the security system. Well-trained staff who screen all who enter the court are the most effective element in a court security system. The operation of x-ray screening and walk-through magnetometers is discussed, along with perimeter security devices that do not require connecting hard-wire devices to a central receiving office. Judges should cooperate in ensuring that court security systems run effectively, and equipment should be tested regularly. The costs of specific court security devices are given.
