THIS REPORT DESCRIBES THE 1972 ADMINISTRATION OF THE HIGHWAY SAFETY ACT OF 1966 AND THE 1972 ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN CARRYING OUT THE PURPOSES OF THE ACT THROUGH STATES AND COMMUNITIES.
Abstract
A DETAILED DISCUSSION IS PRESENTED OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE TRAFFIC SAFETY SITUATION, ITS COST TO THE NATION, AND THE DIFFICULTIES WHICH HINDER THE MATERIAL REDUCTION OF BOTH HIGHWAY AND MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY, AND THE RESEARCH THAT SUPPORTS THEM. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS A STATISTICAL COMPILATION OF THE ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES OCCURING IN THE PRECEDING CALENDAR YEAR, THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY ADVISORY COMMITTEE 1972 MEMBERSHIP, FEDERAL AND STATE FUNDING TABLES, AND A LIST OF OVER 100 PUBLICATIONS OF THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION.
