THIS STUDY CONSISTS OF AN EVALUATION OF THE ROXBURY (MA) COMMUNITY REHABILITATION CENTER (CRC), A PRIVATE ORGANIZATION DESIGNATED AS A COMMUNITY BASED PRERELEASE CENTER BY THE MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS.
Abstract
THE STUDY WAS DESIGNED TO DETERMINE: 1) WHAT VARIABLES DISTINGUISH BETWEEN INDIVIDUALS WHO COMPLETE AND INDIVIDUALS WHO DO NOT COMPLETE THEIR ASSIGNMENTS TO THE CRC; AND 2) WHETHER THOSE INMATES WHO ENDED THEIR TERMS OF INCARCERATION IN THE CRC ARE LESS LIKELY TO BE REINCARCERATED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF THEIR RELEASE THAN ARE SIMILAR TYPES OF INMATES WHO DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE CRC. A STATISTICAL COMPARISON OF THE 51 OFFENDERS WHO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED CRC WITH THE 39 WHO DID NOT YIELDED 13 VARIABLES THAT PRODUCED STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TWO SAMPLES. WHILE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT INDIVIDUALS WHO HAD COMPLETED THE CRC PROGRAM EXHIBITED A LOWER RATE OF RECIDIVISM THAN SIMILAR TYPES OF INDIVIDUALS WHO DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE CRC, THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO RATES WAS NOT STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT.
