The essays in this volume apply two new criminological approaches -- routine activity and rational choice -- to various categories of crime.
Abstract
The routine activity approach analyzes the criminal event itself, while rational choice analyzes crime in terms of the behaviors motivated by the offender's desire to meet his everyday needs. These essays discuss routine activity and rational choice in the context of crimes such as drunk driving, firearms-related crimes, kidnapping, and political violence. The authors also explore the relationship between these two approaches and more traditional criminological theories. Chapter references
