Abstract
A journal created during the author's three-year stint as a prosecutor was reworked to create this mostly nonfiction account of the trials and tribulations of a district attorney in a large metropolitan city. An attempt is made to describe the precarious relationship between the attorneys and the police, the judges, the court clerks, the defendants, and the victims. The book is mostly anecdotal and is written in the first person writing style. Specific stories are provided that illustrate the current state of the criminal justice system. Prosecutorial discretion is highlighted to emphasize the practical concerns that often override traditional notions of justice and due process.
