Rorschach tests of 150 juvenile delinquents and 150 nondelinquents in India were compared with respect to a variety of psychological characteristics.
Abstract
The youths were ages 11 to 16 years and were matched on age, education, and socioeconomic status. In addition to completing the original 10 cards of the Rorscharch test, they took part in semi-structured interviews that gathered background information about the extent of delinquency, age, education, religion, socioeconomic status, and family relationships. Linear discriminant analysis was used to determine the factors that best distinguished the delinquents from the nondelinquents. Results indicated that delinquents differ from normal youth along the dimension of impulsivity and thus do not want to postpone gratification. Results indicate the need for a structured and supportive environment for delinquents. Tables and 50 references
