REVIEW OF THE CHANGES WHICH MUST BE ADOPTED BY MID-LEVEL MANAGEMENT IN THE TRANSITION FROM TRADITIONAL POLICE ORGANIZATION TO A PARTICIPATIVE MANAGEMENT ENVIRONMENT WITH INCREASED RESPONSIBILITY.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES HIS EXPERIENCES WITH THE TRANSITION FROM A LIEUTENANT IN THE PATROL SECTION TO A TEAM MANAGER WHEN THE MULTNOMAH COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY ADOPTED THE NEIGHBORHOOD TEAM POLICING CONCEPT. HIS DESCRIPTION OF HIS FRAME OF MIND, INITIAL DISORIENTATION, THE CHANGES HE MADE IN HIS MANAGEMENT STYLE, AND THE PROBLEMS HE HAS ENCOUNTERED AND RESOLVED PROVIDE A GUIDE FOR MID-LEVEL MANAGERS INVOLVED IN TEAM POLICING.
