TECHNICAL GUIDELINES ARE PROVIDED ON THE USE OF CHECK PROTECTION IMPRINTS FOR IDENTIFICATION OF STOLEN OR FRAUDULENT CHECKS.
Abstract
THE CHECK PROTECTOR, OR CHECKWRITER, IS A DEVICE THAT CUTS OR IMPRINTS FIGURES ON CHECKS, DRAFTS, OR MONEY ORDERS TO INDICATE THE AMOUNT OF THE INSTRUMENT. IT IS NOTED THAT THESE IMPRINTS CAN BE USEFUL IN TWO WAYS. THEY CAN FURNISH INVESTIGATIVE LEADS WHEN CATALOGUED IN PROPER FILES, AND THEY CAN BE IDENTIFIED OR MATCHED TO THE MACHINES WHICH PRODUCED THEM. THIS ARTICLE PROVIDES GUIDELINES ON SETTING UP CHECK PROTECTOR SAMPLE FILES AND THE TAKING OF COMPARISON SPECIMENS.
