AN INTENSIVE STATISTICAL ANALYSIS SHOWS THE PATTERNS OF ROBBERY AND BURGLARY FOR THE PAST DECADE IN PHILADELPHIA; ABSOLUTE-COUNT STATISTICS FOR SELECTED CHARACTERISTICS ON EACH OF THE 39 POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
AN IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS OF ROBBERY AND BURGLARY IS MADE FOR THE YEARS 1971-1972. THE FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION OF ROBBERY AND BURGLARY OVER THE DECADE 1965-1974 IS COMPILED ON A YEARLY AND DISTRICT-BY-DISTRICT BASIS. ALSO INCLUDED ARE TABLES SHOWING THE NUMBER OF REPORTED ROBBERIES AND BURGLARIES IN EACH DISTRICT FOR 1965 TO 1974. THE ABSOLUTE AND PERCENTAGE CHANGE FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR AND FROM 1965 HAS BEEN CALCULATED. THE PERCENTAGE OF THE CITYWIDE NUMBER OF ROBBERIES AND BURGLARIES IN EACH DISTRICT WAS DETERMINED AND THEN COMPARED TO THE PERCENT OF THE CITY'S POPULATION IN THE DISTRICT AS INDICATED BY THE 1970 CENSUS. A PERCENT CRIME/PERCENT POPULATION RATIO IS SHOWN AND EACH DISTRICT IS RANKED FROM HIGHEST TO LOWEST ACCORDING TO THIS RATIO. SIGNIFICANT SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR EACH DISTRICT AND COMPARED TO THE CITYWIDE FIGURE FOR EACH CHARACTERISTIC SELECTED. INCLUDED IN THE PROFILE IS A BREAKDOWN OF THE ACCUSED OFFENDERS INTO ADULT AND JUVENILE AGE GROUPS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED).
