This discussion of road rage and aggressive driving has chapters on the "conflict mentality," driving psychology, and the future of driving.
Abstract
Four chapters on the "conflict mentality" consider whether "road rage" is a real phenomenon or the creation of a media thirsty for drama, its manifestation worldwide, and road rage as a symptom of the expanding "age of rage." Checklists are provided to test the reader's tendency toward road rage and toward structuring driving as a game in which there is "winning" and "losing." Other chapters in this section discuss how aggressive driving is a manifestation of poor mental health, the causes of "highway hostility," and the spectrum of the characteristics of road rage. Three checklists explore various aspects of the reader's driving attitudes and behaviors. Five chapters address "driving psychology." Topics covered are emotional intelligence for drivers, a three-step driver self-improvement program, children and road rage, supportive driving, and life-long driver education. The concluding section contains three chapters on the "war" against aggressive driving, the motorist's rebellion against speed limits, and the conflict between "dream" cars and driving realities.
