A HISTORY OF SCOTLAND YARD AND POLICE ORGANIZATION IN LONDON FROM THE YEAR 1050 TO THE SECOND WORLD WAR.
Abstract
THE SECTION ON THE OLD POLICE DESCRIBES THE FORMATION OF THE FIRST POLICE OFFICES ON BOW STREET IN 1739, AND PROCEEDS THROUGH THE START OF THE HORSE PATROL AND THE RIVER POLICE. THE SECOND SECTION COVERS THE PERIOD UP TO 1864 INCLUDING THE REORGANIZATIONAL CHANGES MADE BY COMMISSIONER 'KING' MAYNE. THE LAST PART OF THIS HISTORY BRINGS SCOTLAND YARD UP TO THE END OF WORLD WAR II, FOLLOWED BY AN EPILOGUE WHICH DISCUSSES DEVELOPMENTS UP TO 1954.
