DISCUSSION OF RESULTS OF QUESTIONNAIRES GIVEN TO PRISON ADMINISTRATORS, WARDENS, CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS, AND INMATES IN INSTITUTIONS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES.
Abstract
SELECTED CHARACTERISTICS, ATTITUDES, AND OPINIONS OBTAINED FROM PERSONNEL AND INMATES RESPONDING TO THE QUESTIONNAIRES ARE SUMMARIZED. CHARACTERISTICS WHICH DIFFERENTIATED BETWEEN PRISONS REPORTING RIOTS AND THOSE NOT REPORTING RIOTS ARE DESCRIBED AND INCLUDE SECURITY CLASSIFICATION, PHYSICAL FACILITIES, WARDEN-INMATE CONTACT, EDUCATION OF CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AND INMATES, INMATE JOB ASSIGNMENTS, RECREATION, AND ADMINISTRATIVE/ PUNITIVE SEGREGATION PRACTICES.
