Abstract
They are of an investigation inquiring into riots and civil and criminal disorders. The committee's jurisdiction includes investigation of the riots themselves, violent disturbances of the peace, vandalism, civil and criminal disorder, insurrection, and the commission of other crimes in connection with these incidents. The committee also seeks to determine the causes of these occurrences and methods of preventing further violence in this form. To provide Congress with essential facts upon which to base its consideration of necessary legislation in this field, the subcommittee examines in depth three separate aspects of bombing and terrorism that have occurred in recent months. Testimony is presented concerning the patterns and incidence of bombings, both explosive and incendiary, which have occurred since January 1969. These attacks were made against Federal and local government property, police departments, and large industrial concerns. Testimony is presented about the sources and type of printed material which instruct individuals in the manufacture of explosives and incendiary devices and the manner of distribution of such material. The hearings include the testimony of Federal and local government officials and police officers. Approximately 45 exhibits are included in the hearings.
