RESULTS OF A STUDY OF THE RECIDIVISM RATE FOR OFFENDERS PARTICIPATING IN A RHODE ISLAND WORK RELEASE PROGRAM DURING SEVEN YEARS OF ITS OPERATION.
Abstract
A GENERAL FINDING OF THE STUDY WAS THAT THE TOTAL RECIDIVISM RATE WAS 32.3 PERCENT. IN CONJUNCTION WITH THIS, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE RECIDIVISM RATE FOR PARTICIPANTS IN THE WORK RELEASE PROGRAM DECREASED FROM 1967 TO 1970 AND BEGAN INCREASING AGAIN IN 1971 AND 1972. RECIDIVISM RATES WERE HIGHER FOR YOUNGER PARTICIPANTS IN THE PROGRAM. IT ALSO WAS CONCLUDED THAT RECIDIVISM RATES WERE LOWER FOR PERSONS PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAMS FOR LONGER PERIODS OF TIME. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS NUMEROUS TABLES THAT PRESENT CROSS-TABULATION OF ALL THE VARIABLES CONSIDERED IN THIS REPORT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)...KAP
