Abstract
The architect selection process consists of six steps: releasing the request for proposal (RFP), accepting submittals from interested firms, evaluating submittals, interviewing selected firms, ranking the most qualified, and contracting with the top firm. The goal of the RFP is to collect information that allows the selection committee to rate architects' abilities to meet the selection criteria. The basic RFP elements are the project description, services sought, selection process, desired proposal content, and submittal information. Common selection criteria might include experience of the firm, experience of the project personnel, demonstrated results, thoroughness, attention to operating costs, trustworthiness, and accessibility.
