This is a revised draft "Protocol against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Their Parts and Components and Ammunition," supplementing the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime.
Abstract
The revised draft presents several options for most Articles, but the States Parties agreed that: "The provisions of this Protocol shall not be construed or applied either directly or indirectly to undermine the inalienable right to self-determination of peoples struggling against colonial or other forms of alien domination and foreign occupation..." With a view to combating the illegal activities of criminal organizations in the area of the illicit manufacturing of and trafficking in firearms, ammunition, and other related materials, as well as their use for facilitating unlawful enterprises, the purpose of this Protocol is to promote and facilitate cooperation among States Parties to prevent, combat, and eradicate the illicit manufacturing of and trafficking in firearms, ammunition and other related materials. The document contains definitions, purpose, and scope of the protocol and information on its implementation. Notes
