This report discusses the recent activities of United Nations agencies for addressing violence against women; these activities have consisted mainly of publications and information, meetings and conferences, research projects, and technical cooperation.
Abstract
Publications and information efforts have included an international bibliography on violence in the family, a report on the victimization of women in developing countries, sexual assault data for the second edition of The World's Women 1995, and a resource manual for use by criminal justice practitioners. The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute also took part in several meetings and conferences related to violence against women and is conducting a educational project on promoting women's action in drug abuse prevention in Mediterranean countries. Other efforts relate to training manuals and workshops and the development of a training curriculum for criminal justice professionals. The draft plan of action on the elimination of violence against women will provide further direction to the agencies' supportive roles on these issues. Notes
