The United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council's Committee on Crime Prevention and Control initiated a review of the UN role in crime prevention and criminal justice.
Abstract
Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 1989, the review subcommittee looked at the problem of contemporary crime at both national and international levels, the need for more effective international cooperation and assistance, and the development of an international crime and justice program under UN auspices. In addition, the review subcommittee considered economic and social costs of crime, transnational crime, bilateral and regional cooperation in crime prevention, and UN organizations responsible for crime prevention and control. 24 notes
