Abstract
Two research reports are listed under trends in the female inmate population. One provides a statistical profile of the changes in the female inmate population from 1975 through 1985, while the other reviews female new commitments from 1976 through 1984. Six reports are summarized under the category 'Comparison and Profile Reports.' These include a demographic comparison of male and female inmates in custody June 1, 1983, and a correlation of women under custody for the years 1912 and 1982. The trend toward female new commitments for crime from 1960 to 1982, female offenders under custody from 1978 through 1984, and a profile of women under custody as of March 1985 also are included under this category. Recidivism research includes an analysis of low return rate among female offenders. Listed under 'Reports on Women Committed for Homicide' are reports on 1986 female homicide commitments, survey of 1980 new commitments for murder/homicide involving family members, and 1981 female new commitments for homicide. The Bedford Hills Nursery Mothers Followup and a Survey of Nursery Programs in 10 States are described under the 'Inmate Mothers' category. The final section includes seven research reports focusing on time served.
