This article responds to Gary A. Mauser (see NCJ-158217) on the issue of civilian gun ownership in Canada.
Abstract
The author briefly answers Prof. Mauser's criticisms that, in his original commentary (Neil Boyd, 1995), he resorted to ad hominem arguments, that he did not accurately cite Canadian firearm and homicide data, and that he dismissed Mauser's research on the use of firearms for self-protection. In an additional short commentary, another author disputes Boyd's assertion that firearm- related homicides claim most frequently as their victims women killed in their homes by men they know well. Instead, this author asserts that firearms homicides most often involve men killed by acquaintances.
