This looseleaf manual presents the agenda, materials, guidelines, and background information for a 5-day training program intended to provide law enforcement and other professionals with the information necessary to understand, recognize, investigate, and resolve cases involving missing and abducted children.
Abstract
The first module provides an overview of the history, development, and trends associated with the issue of missing children. The second module focuses on investigative case management and emphasizes the need for effective information control and thorough record management. The module on family abductions examines the unique nature of this offense and the need for specialized investigative techniques. The module on nonfamily abduction presents a comprehensive plan to assist investigators in the successful recovery of abducted children and the conviction of the offender. Additional modules focus on infant abduction, the reunification of missing children with the family, media relations during a crisis, and issues related to runaway children. Further modules discuss an abduction’s emotional impact on members of the missing child’s family and explains and assesses the Federal agency resources, including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, State clearinghouses, and nonprofit organizations.
