This report provides information on the implementation status and resource requirements of resolutions and decisions relating to crime prevention and criminal justice adopted by the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in the period 2003-2007 in which action by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime was requested.
Abstract
This report consists of 11 tables which present resolutions and decisions adopted during the 2003-2007 time period by the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and related to crime prevention and criminal justice. Information summarized within the tables on each resolution includes the title of the resolution or decision, a summary of action required, status of implementation, remarks. Highlights of the resolutions and decisions adopted include: (1) 2003--prevention of crimes that infringe on the cultural heritage of peoples in the form of movable property, prevention of urban crime, strengthening international cooperation in preventing, and combating trafficking in persons and protecting victims of trafficking; (2) 2004--strengthening the rule of law and the reform of criminal justice institutions, guidelines on justice for child victims and witnesses of crime, and protection against trafficking in cultural property; (3) 2005--measures to eliminate international terrorism, the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, actions against transnational organized crime, and strengthening reporting on crime; (4) 2006--providing technical assistance for prison reform in Africa and the development of viable alternatives to imprisonment, crime prevention and criminal justice response to violence against women and girls, and international cooperation in the fight against corruption; and (5) 2007--international cooperation in the prevention, investigation, prosecution, and punishment of economic fraud and identity-related crime, strengthening basic principles of judicial conduct, and global initiative to fight human trafficking.
