POPULAR OBJECTIONS TO THE USE OF VOLUNTEERS ARE EXAMINED AND DISCUSSED.
Abstract
OBJECTIONS COVERED INCLUDE THE ARGUMENTS THAT VOLUNTEERS ARE OFTEN OF A DIFFERENT SOCIAL CLASS THAN THE PROBATIONERS, THEY CREATE MORE WORK THAN THEY ARE ABLE TO RETURN IN SERVICE, THEY CANNOT HANDLE SERIOUS PROBLEMS, THEY TEND TO DEAL ONLY WITH ONE ASPECT OF THE PROBLEM, AND THEY OFTEN LACK SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE AND HONEST MOTIVATION.
