THIS REPORT DESCRIBES THE METHODOLOGY EMPLOYED AND THE RESULTS OBTAINED IN A SURVEY OF 153 SELECTED PUBLIC AND PRIVATE HALFWAY HOUSES PROVIDING RESIDENTIAL SERVICES TO ADULT FORMER INMATES AND INMATES APPROACHING RELEASE.

DATA WAS COLLECTED ON THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM OPERATIONS: SELECTION OF CLIENTS, SERVICES PROVIDED, STAFFING PATTERNS, COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT, RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER COMMUNITY AGENCIES, PHYSICAL FACILITIES, FISCAL COSTS AND SUPPORT, MANAGEMENT PRACTICES, AND EVALUATION EFFORTS AND RESULTS.
