DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA STATISTICAL PROBATION OUTCOME PREDICTIONS ARE COMPARED WITH ACTUAL OUTCOMES FOR THE YEARS 1970 THROUGH 1975 TO DEMONSTRATE THE NEED FOR PERIODIC REVALIDATION, AT LEAST BIANNUALLY.
Abstract
IT IS SAID THAT SOCIAL CONDITIONS, POLICY DECISIONS, AND ORGANIZATIONAL PRACTICES ALL AFFECT CORRECTIONAL OUTCOMES. SUCH CONDITIONS, DECISIONS, AND PRACTICES ARE GENERALLY LOCAL AND PERHAPS UNIQUE IN NATURE. FOR THIS REASON, IT IS DEEMED WISE FOR INDIVIDUAL PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICERS TO DO THEIR OWN EVALUATION RESEARCH REGARDING CLASSIFICATION INSTRUMENTS RATHER THAN PLACE RELIANCE UPON RESEARCH CONDUCTED IN OTHER AGENCIES AND OTHER LOCALES.
