THE TYPOLOGY OF JUVENILE DELINQUENTS IS STUDIED BASED ON PERSONAL ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOR TOWARDS OTHERS CARRIED ON OVER A LONG TIME PERIOD IN THE FIELDS OF CORRECTION AND PROBATION.
Abstract
THIS IS A STUDY OF YOUTHFUL OFFENDERS CATEGORIZED INTO NINE SUBTYPES: AA (ASOCIAL, AGGRESSIVE), AP (ASOCIAL, PASSIVE), CFM (IMMATURE CONFORMIST), CFC (CULTURAL CONFORMIST), MP (MANIPULATOR), NA (NEUROTIC, ACTING OUT), NX (NEUROTIC, ANXIOUS), SE (SITUATIONAL EMOTIONAL REACTION TYPE), AND CI (CULTURAL IDENTIFIER). EACH TYPE IS DEFINED IN TERMS OF PERSONAL MODES OF BEHAVIOR AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS OTHERS. MEMBERS OF A PARTICULAR TYPE ARE DEFINED BY THEIR VIEW OF OTHER PEOPLE (AS ROLE MODELS, ENEMIES, OBSTACLES, VICTIMS, SATISFIERS OF NEEDS OR DESIRES, ETC.) AND THE ROLE THE OFFENDER PLAYS WITH RESPECT TO OTHERS (AS AGGRESSOR, LEADER, FOLLOWER, CAJOLER, USER, ACTIVE OR PASSIVE RESISTER, ETC.). THE STUDY IS BASED ON LONG-TERM ANALYSIS OF YOUTHFUL OFFENDERS, IN SOME CASES FROM KINDERGARTEN THROUGH REFORM SCHOOL AND ON INTO PROBATION. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF CHARTS AND GRAPHS, AND THE NINE TYPES ARE GROUPED INTO A SMALLER GROUP OF MASTER PATTERNS ON THE BASIS OF OVERALL COMMON TRAITS. THE TYPES OF YOUTHFUL OFFENDERS LISTED ARE LARGELY BORROWED FROM EARLIER EUROPEAN AND U.S. MODELS. THEIR PARTICULAR SIGNIFICANCE LIES IN THE LONG-TERM NATURE OF THE STUDY AND THE FACT THAT IT DEALS WITH BOTH CORRECTION AND PROBATION. A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF SOURCES, MOSTLY U.S. OR EUROPEAN, IS APPENDED. --IN JAPANESE.
