Abstract
The book is divided into eight parts: research methodology and general reference sources; the police function; criminal justice, courts, corrections, parole, and probation; the crime problem; terrorism and urban guerrillas; the law; social sciences and social problems; and periodicals. Included under research methodology are methods and sources of criminal justice research; research and reference sources; demography; and dictionaries, directories, and encyclopedias. Subjects covered under the police function include general aspects of the police, field operations, police methods and tactics, auxiliary and staff services, police-community relations, comparative police administration, police history, forensic sciences, industrial security, police personnel administration, and management functions. Under the crime problem heading, specific crimes, drugs, juvenile delinquency, crime prevention, and criminology are highlighted. Terrorist and extremist groups, violence, and civil disorder comprise the main subheadings under 'the barbarians.' The periodicals section lists general periodical sources, criminal justice and management journals, and publications concerned with social problems and social sciences. Foreign police sources are described, with comparative listings for courts, corrections, and criminal law. A subject index is supplied. Appendixes give sources for locating publishers' addresses, books, and journals and list abbreviations.
