Abstract
Overview articles examine the role of the family in the correctional process, present policy recommendations from the First National Leadership Conference on Families of Adult Offenders, and examines the issues related to fostering inmate-family ties. Further papers examine the relationship between inmate-family ties and recidivism, with emphasis on the effects of travel distance, marriage, and prison visiting programs. Further papers present demographic information regarding prisoners and their families and discuss the specific issues related to prisoners who are also parents. Further papers examine the problems of offenders' wives, the impact of imprisonment on black families, and issues related to long-term offenders and their families. Tables and chapter notes.
