This report contains information on the Aftercare and Intensive Probation Project initiated through funding from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD).
Abstract
For a 2-year period, beginning January 1, 1985, and ending December 31, 1986, aftercare and intensive probation programs for juvenile delinquents in certain Pennsylvania counties were monitored by the Juvenile Court Judges' Commission (JCJC) through county visits and reporting forms. The report details the major goals of the aftercare and intensive probation programs and describes how these goals were met over the 2 years. The report describes decreases in placement lengths, placement costs, and recidivism. The report concludes that the increased supervision and planning provided by the aftercare and intensive probation programs caused fewer youths to re-enter the juvenile justice system. The author reports that the JCJC will continue to fund and monitor aftercare and intensive probation projects. Graphs and tables.
