The United Nations Commission on Crime Control and Criminal Justice met in Vienna, Austria for the first time in April 1992. The Commission discussed the need for strengthening international cooperation in crime control and criminal justice.
Abstract
The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice of the United Nations Economic and Social Council was established for the purpose of advancing international cooperation and technical assistance in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. Members of the Commission come from 40 geographically diverse nations. Thirty-seven members were in attendance when the Commission held its first session in Vienna, Austria from April 21 through 30, 1992. During a series of 10 meetings the delegates considered the need for strengthening international cooperation in crime control and criminal justice, the role of the Commission, its goals and the establishment mechanisms for carrying out its goals.
