This report includes statistics on the number of applications for orders authorizing or approving interception of wire or oral communications or extensions granted or denied during calendar year 1980.
Abstract
It is submitted under the provisions of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2519(3). Title 18 requires that every State and Federal judge file a written report on each application for an order authorizing the interception of oral or wire communication. This report, furnished within 30 days of the denial or expiration of the court order (including all extensions), must contain the name of the applicant, the offense specified in the application, the type of interception device, the type of location, and the duration of the authorized intercept. The report discusses the regulations concerned with reporting requirements and the locations of the interceptions (most often reported was a single family dwelling) and presents a summary and analysis of reports filed by Federal and State judges and prosecuting officials. Tables make up most of the report.
