THIS REPORT COMPARES THE RESULTS OF TWO NATIONAL SURVEYS OF VICTIMS TO VIOLENT CRIMES CONDUCTED IN FINLAND IN 1970 AND 1973.
Abstract
THE SURVEY SAMPLES INCLUDED ALL MEMBERS OF THE FINNISH POPULATION OVER THE AGE OF 15 YEARS. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE SAMPLES WERE FOUND TO BE SMALL, WITH THE MOST MARKED INCREASE OF VICTIMIZATION OCCURRING AMONG RELATIVELY YOUNG MALES IN WHITE COLLAR OCCUPATIONS. ANOTHER SIMILAR SURVEY IN THIS TIME SERIES IS EXPECTED TO YIELD MORE CONCLUSIVE RESULTS. AN APPENDIX CONTAINS AN ANALYSIS OF THE SEASONAL DISTRIBUTION OF THE EVENTS REPORTED BY THE RESPONDENTS.
