Providing employees with training in how to respond to a robbery reduces their physical risks and results in a safer workplace.
Abstract
This training can also reduce the psychological trauma of a victimization, allowing victims to return to full productivity sooner than if they had never received any guidance. This training also benefits local police officials in that trained employees can secure the crime scene and give better descriptions of suspects. Training programs include off-site training, on-site training, and role playing or mock robbery training. The best approach is to conduct the training at the actual business location. An evaluation of mock robbery training given to staff of financial institutions by the police department of Spokane, Wash. found the training to be useful and indicated that participants in one training session benefited from becoming observers of a subsequent training program.
