THIS PROJECT APPLIED VOCATIONAL EVALUATION, DIAGNOSIS, TRAINING, TREATMENT, AND VOCATIONAL PLACEMENT TO SELECT WORK RELEASE JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR INMATES TO MEASURE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF EMPLOYABILITY IN PREVENTING RECIDIVISM.
Abstract
SIX NORTH CAROLINA CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS FOSTERED THESE SPECIAL WORK RELEASE PROGRAMS, WITH EACH PARTICIPATING UNIT HOUSING ITS OWN VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION COUNSELORS. COUNSELORS AND JOB DEVELOPMENT SPECIALISTS OBTAINED PLACEMENT FOR 60 INMATES AND PROVIDED SUPPORTIVE COUNSELING. HOWEVER, THIS THREE-YEAR PROJECT WAS TERMINATED AFTER SIX MONTHS DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS, AND NO SIGNIFICANT DATA WAS GATHERED.
