EXAMINATION OF THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF HIGHER EDUCATION ON PERFORMANCE AND JOB SATISFACTION AMONG LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS.
Abstract
THE AUTHORS DISCUSS PREVIOUS RESEARCH IN THIS AREA AND PRESENT THEIR OWN INFORMAL OBSERVATIONS ABOUT THE UNANTICIPATED NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF INCREASING THE EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT. EVIDENCE IS PROVIDED FROM A SURVEY OF THREE SMALL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES INDICATING THAT THE EFFECT OF EDUCATION ON PROFESSIONALISM AND JOB CONTENT MAY BE INSIGNIFICANT OR EVEN COUNTERPRODUCTIVE IN SOME SITUATIONS.
