AUSTRALIAN CUSTODIAL INSTITUTIONS FOR JUVENILES WERE COMPARED TO TREATMENT CENTERS IN ORDER TO MEASURE THEIR RELATIVE SUCCESS IN PREVENTING RE-APPEARANCE IN COURT.
Abstract
WHEN A BATTERY OF MEASURES, COVERING ATTITUDE TO TRAINING, BEHAVIOR RATINGS BY STAFF, AND PERSONALITY MEASURES WERE INCLUDED IN A MULTIPLE REGRESSION ANALYSIS, TOGETHER WITH AN INDEX OF PREVIOUS DELINQUENCY, THE DELINQUENCY INDEX PROVED TO BE THE BEST SINGLE PREDICTOR OF RECIDIVISM FOR CUSTODIAL INSTITUTIONS. BUT WITH THE TREATMENT CENTERS, PREVIOUS HISTORY ADDED LITTLE TO THE PREDICTIVE POWER OF THE OTHER VARIABLES.
