AN OVERVIEW AND SUMMARY OF 80 FEDERAL AND STATE COURT RULINGS FROM THE YEARS 1974 AND 1975 WHICH DEAL WITH ISSUES IN CORRECTIONAL POLICY, INSTITUTIONAL PROCEDURES, AND INMATE RIGHTS.
Abstract
THE CASES CITED IN THIS ARTICLE DEMONSTRATE THE TRENDS IN CORRECTIONAL LAW ESTABLISHED IN EARLIER KEY COURT RULINGS. THE MAJORITY OF CASES CITED ARE FROM THE U.S. SUPREME COURT, THE U.S. CIRCUIT COURTS OF APPEAL, AND THE U.S. DISTRICT COURTS. THIS ARTICLE REVIEWS COURT DECISIONS RELATING TO SUCH AREAS AS CORRESPONDENCE; ACCESS TO COURTS, COUNSEL, AND THE MEDIA; GRIEVANCES; RELIGION; GROOMING; DISCIPLINARY METHODS; AND FACILITIES. CASES ARE ALSO EXAMINED IN THE AREAS OF INMATE SAFETY, ADMINISTRATIVE INVESTIGATIONS, MEDICAL TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION, DETAINERS, PAROLE, CLASSIFICATION, TRANSFERS, AND ADMINISTRATOR'S LIABILITY.
